Forging a New Legacy:
The North Star Shield

From 2019 to 2022, the North Star Shield stood as the pinnacle of achievement in the Canadian Premier League (CPL), awarded to playoff champions who triumphed in the league’s climactic finals. Crafted as a crystal shield engraved with the CPL logo, it symbolised the league’s early commitment to uniting Canadian soccer under a singular emblem of excellence.

In 2023, the CPL introduced the North Star Cup, a new trophy designed to embody the league’s evolving identity and aspirations. Created by ÉPICO Studios, led by Richard Levy, the Cup features a 13-sided base representing Canada’s provinces and territories, and handles inspired by the maple leaf, reflecting national unity.

This transition from the Shield to the Cup marks a significant evolution in the CPL’s narrative, aligning with global football traditions while honouring Canada’s unique cultural fabric.
